Simple circular knitting cowl on a Brother 260 machine

The circular knitting cowl

One easy way to machine knit a seamless cowl or neck warmer is by using the circular knitting feature of a knitting machine. You will need a ribber for the circular knitting. Either a bulky or standard gauge knitting machine will work with this technique. You just need to knit a sample first and adjust the cast on stitch and row numbers.

Watch the video tutorial on the CreativeTien YouTube channel for knitting a cowl with a Brother 260 bulky knitting machine, the Ribber, and fingering weight yarn: https://youtu.be/LzTIC1kwZ3A

I used a sock yarn with color variations to add interest. The top and bottom edges are simply sewn to the inside to prevent curling.

Machine setup and knitting process

You will need a ribber for circular knitting. Here I am using Brother 260 bulky knitting machine with a ribber.

Set the pitch to H3 (half pitch) and pull out the required needles.

Start with waste yarn and do the regular zig-zag row and 3 circular rows.

Change to the main yarn and the main tension, knit until the length you like.

Change back to waste yarn and knit a few rows. Take it off the machine.

Then, you can fold the top and bottom edges in (for about 1 inch) and sew them up with a whip stitch.

That is all. Your neck warmer is done! Happy knitting!

Set up the ribber to half-pitch 3.
Pull out as many needles as needed.
Use waste yarn and knit the usual zig-zag row and 3 circular rows just like for regular ribbing.
The seamless circular tube is formed.

Undo the waste yarn at the cast-on row.
Fold in the top and bottom edges to the wrong side and sew them up.
