How to machine knit a Chevron Lace Hem

Here is a machine knitted chevron or scalloped hem with lace eyelets. We will show you how to knit this trim by simple hand manipulation. This creates a feminine edge that is suitable for spring or summer garments.

You can modify this stitch to different widths and heights, or different repeats of lace eyelets.

First, we have to decide how many stitches to cast on. Each pattern repeat is 10 stitches including 1 plain stitch on each side. So you can cast on multiple of 10 stitches, plus any edge stitch you like.

In this sample, I cast on 30 stitches.

Find the center 2 stitches of each section. We are going to transfer 3 stitches on each side toward these 2 center stitches.

Latch tool cast on

Do a latch tool cast on to create a firm edge. This is also called a crochet tool cast on. Start with a slip knot and place it on the first needle, insert the latch tool through the loop and grab the yarn. Pull through the yarn and repeat.

Transfer Row

Find the center 2 needles in each section. Transfer the left 3 stitches one stitch toward the right, and transfer the right 3 stitches toward the left.

The center 2 needles should have 2 stitches each. And the 2nd and 8th needles should be empty.

Repeat the same transfer for each 10 stitch section.

Knit 2 rows after each transfer row.

Repeat the transfer row and 2 plain rows until the length you like.

Continue knitting the main piece or plain stockinette stitches.
