Neck warmer with ruffled edges
A neck warmer is one of my favorite projects. It is small enough, so it knits up quickly, and I can try different knitting techniques easily. It is also practical to wear or give out as a gift.
Construction of the neck warmer with ruffled edges
This neck warmer project is very simple. The ruffled edge is the design focus. I knit the ruffles first and hang them back to the machine when knitting the main piece.
So there are 2 long pieces of stockinette stitches and one main rectangle piece. Depending on how “ruffled” you like, you can knit the ruffle piece longer or shorter. When the ruffle is longer, there will be more overlap and the “ruffle” will be more obvious.
For the main piece, I place some needles in the non-working (A) position to create vertical lines. It reminds me of the ribbing and creates some interest.
Knitting machine and yarn
I use the LK150 knitting machine. It can be done on almost any knitting machine. No ribber is required.
I use a DK weight yarn for the main piece for this project, and sports weight yarn for the ruffle. This way, the ruffled edges are not too heavy or stiff. Since it is only stockinette stitches, it is easy to substitute yarns. Just need to make a swatch first to calculate rows and stitches.
