Double e-wrap, latch tool, and crochet hook cast on

Here is the second part of the cast on methods for machine knitting beginners. You will find the video below for the double e-wrap cast on, latch tool cast on, and crochet hook cast on.

The double e-wrap creates a sturdy edge compared to the simple e-wrap cast on. The latch tool or crochet hook cast on are basically the same, just with different tools. They both create a row of chain stitches that are not very flexible.

Each cast-on method has appropriate use depending on your project. Sometimes we need a sturdy and rigid cast-on row, and sometimes we need a stretchy cast-on. Other times, you might need an open cast on with live stitches.

See the link below for the article about the basic cast on with waste yarn, ravel cord, and simple e-wrap cast on:

Both the latch tool cast-on and the crochet hook cast-on create a row of chain stitches just like the crocheted chain stitches. They form a rigid cast-on edge, without much flexibility.

Crochet hook cast-on

The crochet hook cast-on is basically the same as the latch tool cast-on, except using the crochet hook. Some people might prefer one method to another. I find the latch tool easier to use personally. It is easier to adjust tension. With practice, you can cast on quickly with either method.
