Valentine’s Day card making and hand-knit a heart shape

Valentine’s Day is coming up soon. My little boy’s elementary school asks everyone to make cards for classmates. That is why I chose to make these heart-shaped cards, custom envelopes, and knit a small heart.

The origami cards and hand-made envelopes

The paper craft of Valentine’s Day cards and envelopes is easy and quick. I use origami papers with colorful patterns. Simply fold and cut out the heart shapes. Kids can write messages inside.

The envelopes are made of copy-papers. Each letter-size paper makes 2 envelopes. You can design the size of the cards accordingly, or make the envelopes bigger with a bigger size of paper.

The knitted heart with simple garter stitch

The heart shape knitting is done by hand-knit instead of my usual machine knitting. I use garter stitch so it does not curl. And yes, hand knitting is faster than machine knitting with a garter stitch.

You can make the knitted heart as big or as small as you like. It can be used as a bookmark, keychain, or home decoration. Kids can participate too if they are interested in knitting.

The heart knitting is really simple. The top center of the heart shape is made by sewing down to the center of the heart. So there is no complicated shaping.

I knitted from the bottom up, increased on each side by knitting front and back, decreased a few rows, then bind off. Then sew down with the yarn tail to create the heart shape. This way, the process is simple, even little kids can make it.
