Step by step picture tutorial

  1. Cut 2 front pieces and 2 back pieces based on the pattern. They are all identical in shape and size.

2. Sewing the center. Place the 2 pieces with right side facing each other, and sew a line with 1/4 inch seam allowance. Backstitch at the beginning and the end.

3. After sewing the centerline, clip small lines along the curve so it will be easier to turn over.

4. Open up (turn over) and the 3-D shape is formed. Do the same for the second side.

5. Iron as necessary to give a crisp fold.

6. Now we are going to connect the 2 pieces. Check the pattern direction and place them with the right side facing each other.

7. Pin from the center out. Sew a line along the curve on the top half, and another line along the bottom curve with 1/4 inch seam allowance.

Start sewing around the intersection of the square edge and the 1/4 inch seam allowance. We try to leave room for the square tabs to be turned inward later.

Back stitch at the beginning and the end.

Open up the center seam or flatten it to one side to reduce the bulk before sewing.

After sewing the line.

8. Clip some small vertical lines around the curve so it will be easier to turn over. Make sure not to cut the sewing thread.

9. Turn inside out from the opening at the sides.

10. Now fold the side tabs (rectangles) in to hide the raw edges.

11. Cut 2 pieces of elastics (7.5 inches for average adult size).

12. Insert the elastics into the side openings.

13. Sew a line about 1/8 inch from the edge. Backstitch at the beginning and the end. Make sure to go over the elastic twice at least.

All done!

It can be folded flat in half.

And is reversible.
